Genre Research Blog

The genre of crime fiction can have a variety of different film-making ideas. This is one of the elements that interested me about this genre, as someone can incorporate mystery or murder mystery. This genre deals with crime, criminals, police work, and detection. Many things can go into this genre which is what I look forward to as well. Crime involves action, so this genre may take place outside and at night. As crime is also considered an action movie the film, some camera movements and angles would include, tracking, long shots, close-up shots, and eye-level shots to create suspense. Fast and slow past editing, to create suspense, dissolve transitions. One example is the movie 'Drive' (2011) opening sequence scene. Its unexpected ending gives the audience room to be curious to make it suspenseful, they used cut editing to cut from film to film and various light exposures. quick/sharp edits, as this is related to action. Another film example would be 'Baby Driver' (2017) as this is a crime film.  Common sounds to enhance suspense it may be a silent movie with little dialog and background noises. Music in the background can also be used as either a slow past such as, a moody piano piece, or a fast past to endure action. Lesser effect sounds, or just sound effects from radios, walkie-talkies, a phone call to create suspense or text messages.
